Museum of Sex

The Museum of Sex (MoSex) opened its doors October 5, 2002 on Fifth Avenue at 27th Street with its inaugural award-winning exhibition, NYCSEX: How New York Changed Sex in America. The museum collaborates with world-renown cultural institutions, artists, and academics to create exhibitions and programs that explore the best in current scholarship in the arts, sciences and humanities. Thus far, it has shown more than 25 exhibitions and three online interactive web projects. Its permanent collection is comprised of more than 15,000 sexually significant artifacts, from fine art to historical ephemera. Daniel Gluck, founder and executive director of Museum of Sex, conceived of an institution unlike any other – one wholly dedicated to the exploration of the history, evolution and cultural significance of human sexuality. In keeping with this mission, the museum advocates open discourse and strives to present to the public the best in current scholarship unhindered by self-censorship. Befitting the museum's role as an educational sexual epicenter, it also provides a diverse program of events, including performances, lectures and seminars. The Museum of Sex features four floors of gallery space and a unique gift shop which offers one-of-a kind signature products including publications, home accents, bath & spa treatments, clothing and, of course, the best selection of sex toys available. Visitors also enjoy Play, the museum's popular café/den/bar & lounge.
