How to Work from Home Both Securely and Productively.

Due to COVID-19, many employers are now asking their employees to work from home. This new situation presents many challenges, including how to work from home both securely and productively. The GNYCC asked Dan to give helpful tips on how to work remotely.The main point is that one cybercrime, in a matter of minutes, can take away years of hard work that people have put into creating and building their businesses.

The first problem discussed was Cybersecurity and the threats that small and large businesses face every day. Millions of dollars are spent each year as a result of cybercrime. Emails are the number one most prevalent tactic for cybercriminals. Dan stresses that you should be aware of who is sending the email to your inbox. Certain documents like a pdf can contain harmful viruses, so be careful what you click. People are reminded to ask specific questions before clicking on a link or file from an email:
Do you know the sender of the email?
Are you expecting an email from them?
Are they asking you for credit card information?
Not only is email a threat, but also working from home itself brings up security issues as well. For instance, do the home computers have an up to date anti-virus protection? Do the home computers have up to date patches for the operating system? Also, when logging into their office net network, do employees use a trusted program like gotomypc or log me in? If you are concerned about Cybersecurity, you might consider upgrading your entire network to a cloud platform like Microsoft Azure
